Name of the country where the commodity was produced

Description of the type of product classified according to the HS Code

The Forest 500 commodity score of the exporting company. The Forest 500 score ranks companies according to the strength of their sustainability commitments between 0 and 5

Zero-deforestation commitments (ZDC) are obtained by Global Canopy’s annual assessment which determines whether the exporting company has a commitment to zero deforestation in their supply chain (net or gross deforestation are both acceptable). Province where the kabupaten of production is located

Name of the kabupaten (administrative region) where the commodity was produced

Extent of oil palm as detected by remote sensing analysis.

Oil Palm deforestation exposure is obtained by identifying the oil palm production area (industrial) that overlaps with the deforestation in the 10-year period beginning 13 years before the target year. The area is then allocated to actors along the supply chain based on the unit of production.

Annual oil palm deforestation exposure is obtained by identifying the oil palm production area (industrial) that overlaps with the annual deforestation in the target year. The area is then allocated to actors along the supply chain based on the unit of production.

Total greenhouse gas emissions (annual) associated with palm oil production combining net emission from land use change with emissions from peat burning and peat subsidence. Emissions are allocated to actors along the supply chain based on the unit of production.

Gross greenhouse gas emissions from annual oil palm deforestation and non-forest land conversions (industrial). Estimates are based on the total biomass removal stored in above- and below-ground biomass in forest and non-forest land covers (excl. soil carbon). CO₂-eq were derived by multiplying carbon stocks by 3.67. Emissions are allocated to actors along the supply chain based on the unit of production.

Net greenhouse gas emissions from annual oil palm deforestation and non-forest conversion (industrial) were calculated as the difference between gross emissions from oil palm land-use change and sequestration in new oil palm plantations. Annual greenhouse gas emissions from peat subsidence linked to palm oil production. The emissions are calculated based on the area of palm oil plantations on peat multiplied by an emission factor of 90 t CO₂-eq./ha following Cooper et al. (2020). Emissions are allocated to actors along the supply chain based on the unit of production.

Annual greenhouse gas emissions from peat soil burning linked to palm oil production. The emissions are calculated based on the area of overlap between the burned areas and peat areas and attributed to oil palm based on the different land uses. Emissions were calculated using an average emission estimate for fire events on peat of 824 tonnes of CO₂-eq./ha provided by Rodríguez Vásquez et al., (2021). Emissions are allocated to actors along the supply chain based on the unit of production.

Value of the traded product at point of export in US dollars based on customs and trade data in FOB (Freight on Board).
